Barratt Homes are working in partnership with the Homes and Community Agency (HCA) to redevelop part of the Moorgreen Hospital site on Botley Road for housing.
The portion of the site that is subject to this redevelopment proposal was previously transferred from the National Health Service (NHS) to the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) in April 2014.
Many of the buildings currently on the site have been vacant since 2011 and are falling into disrepair and are vulnerable to anti-social behaviour and vandalism.
The NHS have previously confirmed that the empty buildings and vacant land placed an unnecessary burden on NHS funding which would be better spent on providing healthcare services. Should any need for additional healthcare arise, the NHS have confirmed that there is sufficient land capacity within the 5.6 hectares of the wider Moorgreen site which is to remain in healthcare use. Consequently, the NHS have declared this part of the site and related buildings as surplus to healthcare requirements and the land is now available for redevelopment.
A planning application was submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council in September 2015 for the comprehensive redevelopment of the site to create 121 new homes of which 30% will be affordable. The locally listed workhouse and gatehouses will be retained and sensitively refurbished as a key part of the proposals.

We are pleased to announce that the Council's Planning Committee resolved to grant planning permission in December 2015 subject to a Section 106 Agreement.
The S106 Agreement is currently being negotiated.
We are thrilled to announce that planning has been approved for this site.
